Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC)
Position Overview: The Warden provides executive leadership and overall administrative direction for facility operations, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, administrative rules, and applicable standards governing security, safety, and the humane treatment of incarcerated individuals.
Key responsibilities include:

Development, oversight, and enforcement of facility policies and procedures

Ensuring security operations, including regular inspection of buildings, grounds, security systems, firefighting equipment, and maintenance equipment

Responding to prisoner grievances (Step II)

Ensuring appropriate classification, housing, and programming of prisoners

Developing and monitoring operating procedures to implement MDOC policy directives

Oversight of facility leadership and staff, including a Deputy Warden, Captains, and supervisory personnel

Collaboration with labor organizations, conducting disciplinary conferences, and initiating or directing corrective and disciplinary actions as appropriate

Managing and overseeing the facility budget to ensure operations remain within allocated funding

Representing the department and facility with external stakeholders, including the news media and representatives of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of state government

Directing implementation of the mission, vision, and goals of the Michigan Department of Corrections and the facility
