Position Overview: The Deputy Warden serves as a senior administrative leader at Marquette Branch Prison, acting as the Warden’s designee when assigned and providing executive oversight across key operational areas. This role supports secure facility operations, effective staff management, emergency preparedness, and the humane treatment and well-being of incarcerated individuals in accordance with MDOC policies and administrative rules.
Key responsibilities include:

Serving as the Warden’s surrogate in their absence when assigned

Developing and overseeing budgets for assigned areas of responsibility

Revising, enforcing, and monitoring procedures related to security and emergency or disaster preparedness

Ensuring required inspections and rounds of buildings, grounds, security equipment, sanitation, and fire and safety systems are completed

Responding to prisoner grievances and litigation matters

Ensuring appropriate security and program classification placement of prisoners

Ensuring standards for humane treatment of prisoners are met in compliance with administrative rules, policy, and procedure

Maintaining effective labor and management relations in accordance with bargaining unit contracts and agreements

Ensuring fair and consistent employee performance management and disciplinary investigations

Working closely with Health Services and Mental Health Services to support the physical and mental well-being of prisoners

Maintaining effective relationships with facility departments, other correctional facilities, MDOC administration, external agencies, and the public

Serving as an on-call administrator as assigned
